Drawing
How do I draw?
Twist the two knobs at the bottom of the board: the left knob moves your line horizontally, the right knob moves it vertically. Turn both together for diagonals and curves. The line never lifts — just like the real toy.
Can I draw with my finger instead?
Yes. Tap the free draw button (the pencil) in the control row to toggle it on, then sketch straight onto the board. Tap it again to go back to knobs-only.
How do I erase?
Shake your phone, or tap the shake button — the last button on the right of the control row, under the board. The screen wipes clean with a whoosh. There's no undo, so shake with intent.
Shaking doesn't erase anything.
monoink waits for a real back-and-forth shake rather than a single bump, so a gentle wobble won't trigger it — give it a couple of firm shakes. If nothing happens at all, your device may not expose its accelerometer to apps; the shake button does exactly the same thing.
Can I change the pen colour?
Tap the round colour swatch in the control row to open the watercolour tray, then pick any of the twelve colours. Each theme has its own tray.
What are the themes?
Tap the contrast icon in the control row to cycle through all five: Classic Red, Mint, Charcoal, Arcade and Blossom. They're all free.
What's the nameplate between the knobs?
Tap it to engrave any short name onto the board. It shows up on the drawings you share and save. Also free.
Can I stop the screen reacting while I show someone my drawing?
Tap the lock button in the top-right of the header. While locked, the knobs, free draw and shake all do nothing, so your drawing can't be smudged or wiped. Tap the lock again to carry on.
The board started drawing by itself.
That's the idle screensaver — after about ten seconds without input it quietly draws the monoink logo over your work on a loop. Your drawing is untouched underneath: tap Tap to resume, or just turn a knob, and it comes straight back.
Tracing
How does tracing work?
Tap the trace button in the control row and pick a shape — there are 140+ across nine categories (Shapes, Symbols, Nature, Animals, Objects, Vehicles, Landmarks, Alphabets and Numbers), and you can filter by category in the picker. The shape appears as a dashed guide; draw over it and a live match percentage shows at the top of the board.
Are my scores saved?
Your best score for each shape is kept on your device and shown in the picker, so you always have a personal best to beat.
How do I turn the guide off?
Open the trace picker again and choose the clear/off option. The trace button stays highlighted while a guide is active.
Saving & sharing
Where are my saved sketches?
Tap the camera button to save the current drawing, then the gallery button to browse them. Saved sketches live on your device only — they're never uploaded. If you uninstall the app or clear its data, they're gone.
How do I share a drawing?
Tap the share button to send the current drawing through your phone's normal share sheet, or open any saved sketch from the gallery and share it from there. Shared images are framed in the theme you drew them in.
Purchases
Is the app free?
Yes — all of it. Knob drawing, shake-to-erase, free draw, every one of the 140+ trace shapes with accuracy scoring, name engraving, the gallery, all five themes and the full pen tray are free, with no ads.
What is there to buy, then?
Exactly one thing: Remove watermark, a one-time $1.99 purchase that takes the small monoink.app tag off the images you share and save. That's it — there is no subscription, and nothing renews.
How do I restore my purchase on a new phone?
Open Account (the person icon in the header) and tap Restore purchase. It's tied to your app-store account, so signing in to the same store account is enough. If you also created a monoink account, signing in carries it too.
Do purchases expire?
No. It's a one-time purchase — pay once and keep it. There's nothing to cancel.
Accounts
Do I need an account?
No. An account is completely optional — the app works fully without one. It exists so your purchase follows you between devices.
How do I sign in?
Open Account in the header. You can sign up with an email and password, or tap Continue with Google.
I forgot my password.
Open Account in the app, switch to Log in and tap Forgot your password? — or go straight to monoink.app/forgot-password.html. Enter your email and we'll send you a link to set a new one. The link works once and expires after a while, so use it soon; if it lapses, just request another. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive.
If you created your account with Continue with Google you don't have a monoink password at all — sign in with Google instead.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Account → Delete account. This permanently removes your account and the data tied to it. See the account deletion page for exactly what's removed, and for how to request deletion by email if you no longer have the app installed. Your purchase is one-time, so there's no subscription to cancel — but note that deleting your account does not refund it.
